With the increase in crimes associated with online purchases, we understand that residents feel hesitant to give someone their home or work address to the other party. Many times internet sales occur in random parking lots in order to finalize it. With this in mind, the Upper Providence Township Police Department has set up an “Internet Purchase Exchange Location” directly in front of the police department, which is under video recorded surveillance 24 hours a day.
Using the Internet Purchase Exchange Location is easy. You do not have to notify the police department of your intent to use the location. Just make sure that you conduct your transaction in the immediate area of the posted sign.
If you are looking to purchase something – whether it’s through Craigslist, or one of the many local Buy & Sell Facebook pages – and you need to meet the other party to finalize the purchase, please make use of our exchange zone. By doing so, you are elevating your ability to stay safe.
Disclaimer: The UPPD assumes no liability whatsoever for those using the zone for conducting such transactions.
