Pickup
All recyclables must be placed at the curb for pickup by your contracted private trash hauler. Recyclables may be co-mingled in one recycling bin.
Schedule
Your trash hauler is required to provide you with a recycling pickup schedule which must be a minimum of once per week, according to township ordinance. For questions or pickup dates, contact your trash hauler.
If you live in an apartment building or your trash and recycling services are provided through a homeowners' association, contact your management staff for recycling information.
Regulations
The Upper Providence Township Recycling Regulations (Chapter 148 of the Upper Providence Township Code) requires separation for recycling of certain materials from normal trash and garbage. The township is required to have a recycling program under the State Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste Reduction Act (Number101), which was adopted in 1988.
Materials
All residents of Upper Providence Township are required to separate recyclable materials from all municipal waste (trash and garbage) generated at their properties. The township's ordinance defines recyclable materials as:
- Aluminum cans
- Clear and colored glass containers
- Clear and colored polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastic bottles
- Natural and pigmented high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic bottles
- Newsprint material
- Steel and bimetallic cans
- Tin
Residents must place the recyclable materials at the curb for pickup by their contracted private trash/recycling hauler. All of the recyclable materials listed above may be commingled in the recycling container. Each private trash/recycling hauler is required to communicate to their customers as to the schedule for pickup of the recycling.
