The Township of Upper Providence, Department of Fire and Emergency Services, internship program is designed to provide interested persons with an opportunity to gain experience surrounding fire and emergency services.

The Township of Upper Providence, Department of Fire and Emergency Services, internship program is designed to provide interested persons with an opportunity to gain experience surrounding fire and emergency services. Our department will provide hands-on work experience, training, and exposure to the fire service in general including; equipment maintenance, fire code inspections, fire protection system operations and fire origin and cause investigations. We are looking for dynamic, energetic, and responsible individuals committed to furthering their interests and education in the fire service. Our internship program is designed to allow participants to make important contributions to our department and community while taking part in a challenging and rewarding experience. We hope the experience you gain during your internship with our department helps you achieve your goals and; we hope the program broadens your view and education in the fire service.
Requirements
* Must be 18 years of age or older
* Must be a member in good standing with a fire department –or- be currently enrolled in a fire science or similar public safety/ public administration program through an accredited university
* Participants must pass a criminal history background check
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a Township of Upper Providence, Department of Fire and Emergency Services employee, the intern will/may:
1. Respond to fire and other emergency calls onboard a township owned vehicle.
2. Maintain and prepare written reports.
3. Perform duties required for fire prevention and pre-incident planning.
4. Assist in the maintenance of fire apparatus and equipment, fire station and grounds.
5. Attend training with employees
6. Learn fire department rules, regulations, policies, procedures and techniques.
7. Complete a daily log.
8. Perform other duties as assigned.
9. Interns will be assigned shift and a shift supervisor.
Compensation
Each selected intern will begin receiving an hourly wage as a summer intern and will work side-by-side other department staff for a minimum of two 10 shifts per week. Shifts will begin the week of June 5th and finish August 4th. No benefits above an hourly wage are provided.
The Department is looking for two Interns at this time.
