***FIRE SPRINKLER SAVE***
For the 3rd time this year, commercial fire sprinklers have prevented a major catastrophe for Township business owners.
As a part of the Township Fire Marshal’s Office inspection program, this facility has been the target of several fire protection system repairs and upgrades over the years. Yesterday, those alterations saved the property.
Around 4pm the DFES and multiple other local fire departments were alerted to a reported building fire in the Oaks section of the Township of Upper Providence. Crews arrived at the facility to find an active fire and smoke condition throughout the nearly 22,000 square foot warehouse portion of the structure. Using thermal imaging cameras and armed with a fire hose, crews were able to advance their way through the building to locate the fire. Once in the building crews were able to verify that there were no trapped occupants and extinguished the visible fire. The interior Firefighters operated with air masks (SCBA) for quite some time pulling apart the pile of burnt materials to expose additional hidden fires. Thankfully, two fire sprinklers located near the fire kept the fire from spreading. After extinguishment, mop-up and removing smoke and high levels of carbon monoxide from the building took a few additional hours.
