Tools of our craft.
As employees of the DFES, the staff are also State certified Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT's). In addition to the numerous pieces of firefighting equipment, our fire engine is equipped with life saving emergency medical equipment. From time-to-time, our current emergency medical service (EMS) system becomes strained to a point where the staffed fire engine will respond to assist at EMS calls within Upper Providence Township. When arriving at any EMS call, our EMT’s need to be equipped to handle the emergency at hand. Emergency medical calls can range from falls (with and without trauma) to broken bones, people choking, heart attacks, overdoses, animal bites, drowning and any other way someone could hurt themselves!
Our equipment is basic in nature, often referred to as basic life support (BLS) equipment. This equipment allows us to manage airway, breathing and circulation (ABC’s) issues. Our very simplistic goal is to sustain life until local Paramedics can arrive for further treatment and transportation to an appropriate hospital.
Pictured below is our equipment that includes:
Body substance isolation kits, suction unit, medical bag with oxygen, bag valve masks for children and adults, blood pressure monitoring equipment and stethoscope, triage kit for mass casualty incidents, an automatic external defibrillator (AED) and opioide overdose kit (Naloxone).
