[ARCHIVED] Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever Alert

The Township of Upper Providence has recently been alerted by the Montgomery County Health Department that several pets in the Township have contracted, and in some cases passed away from Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF).

****IMPORTANT ADVISORY****
The Township of Upper Providence has recently been alerted by the Montgomery County Health Department that several pets in the Township have contracted, and in some cases passed away from Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF).
Rocky Mountain spotted fever is a tick borne disease that, according to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) “Is a serious illness that can be fatal in the first eight days of symptoms if not treated correctly, even in previously healthy people”.
RMSF has been around since the 1920’s and cases throughout the country have increased greatly over the past decade.
Coupled with the Health Department's information and the months of June and July having the most cases reported to the CDC; we encourage everyone to take simple precautions.
Please review the following information from the CDC on “Preventing tick bites” here: https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/avoid/on_people.html
