After Tropical storm Isaias in 2020, it became clear that Upper Providence Township needed to upgrade the township radio system that serves all the township departments. The project involved installing a new radio antenna on the top of the cellular tower located at the rear of the township administration building. A new digital repeater system was installed and this year the purchase of over 40 high-band radios completed this long-term project.
The radio system now allows all of the township departments to communicate during events, emergencies, and daily activities. The system also provides a redundant communication in the event the County 911 system is overwhelmed and having technical issues.
This was funded through multi-year capital expenditures.
