LED Traffic Signals
Within the past couple of years, the Township has made strides to become a more sustainable municipality. One project that has recently been completed is the conversion of all the traffic signals to more energy efficient LED bulbs. In 2015, Upper Providence Township was awarded the Green Light-Go Grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. With this grant, the Township was able to upgrade all existing traffic signal lights to LED. The grant was a 50% match to cost incurred by the Township. The project was completed in November of 2019. According to the Department of Energy, LED bulbs use at least 75% less energy than a compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) bulbs.
